Houston Medical Testing Services

HMTS provides full service drug and alcohol testing with many options...

DRUG TESTING – URINALYSIS – When drugs are taken in any form, traces end up in the urine within a very short time. Depending on the drug taken, they will remain in the urine for days or weeks. If drugs are present, our drug testing system will identify them. HMTS does 5-panel DOT and 5-panel non-DOT drug testing, plus 10-panel non-DOT drug testing, or any combination thereof, as required by the employer. The basic 5-panel DOT screen, tests for Cannabinoids (marijuana, hashish, THC), PCP, Opiates (opium, heroin, morphine, codeine), Cocaine, and Amphetamines (speed). A 10-panel screen, tests for the basic five abusive drugs, plus Barbiturates (downers), Methaqualone (quaalude), Methadone (heroin substitute), Benzodiazephines (tranquilizers, Librium, Valium), and Propoxyphene. Urine specimens are collected daily and sent to a laboratory Federally certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Extensively trained and certified collection technicians follow strict Chain-of-Custody procedures.

FIVE MINUTE RAPID DRUG SCREEN URINALYSIS – As an alternative to sending a urine specimen to a certified laboratory, there are many circumstances where there is a need for "instant" drug test results. HMTS offers testing using a rapid screen kit which gives extremely accurate results within 5 minutes or less. They are available in 5-panel or 10-panel configurations, and while approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, they are not approved for DOT testing yet. A recent independent laboratory study confirms the kits as 100% accurate in drug detection. They are particularly useful to employers who wish to test their prospective employees immediately so the individual can go to work right away. Also, individuals can purchase them from HMTS or companies which want to conduct their own drug testing. Test costs by HMTS personnel using the rapid screen kits are comparable to laboratory testing, or the kits can be purchased outright through HMTS. They are not available through traditional outlets such as pharmacies and drug stores.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY DEVELOPMENT - HMTS offers full service drug and alcohol policy development to its clients which do not have a written policy in place for their employees. We strongly urge our clients to implement a written substance abuse policy which clearly outlines the employer’s expectation toward the potential problem, the consequences for violation of the policy by the employee, and how the problem is addressed in the event of a positive test result. A written policy is critical for the legal protection of the employer and the employee in order to avoid potential legal challenges, which can be costly for all parties. HMTS is quite skilled in policy development and can provide a policy which exactly fits the needs of the employer and employees, and at a reasonable cost. We urge each clinet to have the policy reviewed by their attorney.

MRO services are required for employers doing DOT mandated drug and alcohol testing, yet many non-DOT employers desire the use of an MRO also.

CONSORTIUM SERVICES - A Consortium is a group of individuals or small business that form an association or agreement for a specific purpose or purposes such as to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT), the FHWA, USCG, FAA, FRA, and RSPA anti-drug programs.  HMTS offers consortiums for FTA, FHWA, and FAA, that fully comply with all Federal regulations from the department regulating the client's industry.  We provide the government mandated employee education materials, supervisor training, random selection, drug and alcohol policy, the testing program and collection, the laboratory and medical review officer, and a fully pre-approved program that complies with and is approved by DOT.  The primary benefit to firms such as small trucking companies and other regulated businesses, is the greatly reduced cost by HMTS providing many services for just a small enrollment fee and testing fee, plus we monitor any changes in DOT regulations that would affect your company.  As a consortium member, you have a hassle-free program that lets you prioritize your time and resources.
